Synopsis
Victoria is supposed to marry Dominic Castellano, a ruthless mafia king with a rumor hanging over him: he killed his last wife. On the wedding day, Victoria runs. To protect her family from the fallout, her 25-year-old half-sister Lily — a nurse, not a mafia princess — walks down the aisle in her place and binds herself to a man she fears might be a killer.
Why it works
Most contract-marriage dramas defang the husband by episode three. This one doesn’t — or at least, it makes you wait. The engine of the show is a single unanswered question: is Dominic a monster? Every tender moment lands differently because the rumor never fully goes away, and Lily’s position (a civilian who chose this) keeps the stakes personal instead of operatic.
Watch out for
If the “is he dangerous or just misunderstood” tease drives you crazy rather than delighting you, 56 episodes of it will feel long. The sister who caused all this also sticks around, and you’ll have opinions about her.
